New Build Ferry Hub in Sydney
Sydney is well-served by marine transport being ‘The Harbour City’. This project was the construction of a new ferry hub in central to the city, designed to increase ferry capacities and transportation services for thousands of travellers.
During the project, a number of delay and disruption events occurred, some of which due to the actions of the Head Contractor that subsequently appointed Accura Consulting to assist with commercial and claims management.

A complex case that required forensic analysis and a tailored solution, Accura Consulting experts helped mitigate the full material impact of losses numerous project challenges including, to mitigate losses, defending a claim and adjudication application by the marine piling contractor for delay, disruption and additional costs in conjunction with external legal representation.
A key part of our support was in prosecuting an insurance claim for defective design against the structural steel subcontractor. Steel, manufactured overseas, had significant quality control issues that had to be rectified in Australia. The successful claim reduced the Head Contractor’s losses.
Following a forensic review of the project particulars, identified opportunities to prosecute claims including for costs and an extension of time. As a result, losses were mitigated.
Other actions undertaken in this work included:
• Introducing a robust approach to commercial management.
• Undertaking procurement of outstanding trade packages.
• Managing subcontractor accounts (contractual correspondence, assessing progress claims, assessing variations).
• Reviewing internal commercial processes.
• Establishing commercial controls.
• Re-forecasting costs to complete and forecasting final project cost.
These improvements gave the Executive Committee confidence in the project controls and in reporting to the Board of Directors.
